HAITI

The MIT Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) started the Haiti Project in 2001 and has had teams working there for three consecutive years. Political instability kept us out of Haiti in 2004. Since 2001 in Haiti, we have evaluated the Gift of Water Filter’s 2-bucket rough filter/granular activated carbon filter + chlorine system and program, the Safe Water System, various aspects of chlorine generation, demand, trihalomethane formation, and Solar Disinfection (SODIS). We have also performed health studies and evaluated health impacts of these safe water interventions.
