KENYA

The 2004-2005 water/sanitation in developing countries project team, Maji , meaning "water" in Swahali, focuses its efforts on safe storage, household drinking water treatment systems (ceramic filtration, coagulation/flocculation, Safe Water System, SODIS), and Ecological Sanitation and novel electro-biochemical nitrogen removal. Joining our Master of Engineering students in Kenya are four Sloan MBA students from "G-lab," one Urban Studies and Planning Masters student and and one Harvard School of Public Health Masters student.

The work in Kenya during January 2005 is being conducted with a number of partners, including the Ministry of Water (Kenya), CARE-Kenya, the Centers for Disease Control, the Kenya Water for Health Organization (KWAHO), the Society of Women with AIDS in Kenya (SWAK) and the World Health Organization's "International Network to Promote Household Drinking Water Treatment and Safe Storage."
