PERU

The Peru Project was initiated by the MIT Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Department in the 2003-2004 academic year. A team comprised of environmental engineering and MIT Sloan Business School students traveled to Peru in January 2004 to compare 3 different drinking water interventions: the Peru “Table Filter” which is a locally made sand and ceramic water filter, the Safe Water System, and a conventional community scale centralized water treatment plant. A second team of engineering students returned to Peru over the summer 2004 and continued the preliminary work begun in January 2004.
